Capitol River Council: Welcome to the New UI of District 17
UX/UI Case Study
Duration: March 21st. 2024 - April 4th, 2024
The Capitol River Council needed assistance in redesigning their website. Recognizing this opportunity, our group identified the need to transform their text-heavy site into a more user-friendly UI experience, particularly for the local community. The goal was to create a welcoming platform that facilitates access to information and encourages community engagement, aligning with the council's role in local governance.

Timeline and Scope
Over the course of three weeks, our team collaborated to strategize and initiate the redesign of the active website. Despite challenges such as John's week-long vacation and Ben's intermittent emergencies, we collectively invested approximately 110 hours into the project. Ben's sporadic availability allowed him to leverage his UX expertise in creating our style guide and crafting initial drafts of the mobile site. Amelia and I continued to drive progress during this period, focusing on laying the groundwork for high-fidelity prototypes. Amelia's skill in selecting colors was particularly memorable and inspiring, as her chosen palette perfectly encapsulated the welcoming and engaging essence desired for a local government website. Upon John's return, his meticulous attention to detail further refined the website's updates, enhancing its overall quality. Subsequently, we proceeded with testing, iterating, and presenting our work to both the UX community and the Capitol River Council.
Phase 1: User Research
Much of our user research was conducted through surveys, aiming to gauge community members' engagement with local government and their involvement within their communities. We discovered that many users felt uncertain about where to begin or how to access relevant information, prompting us to prioritize this aspect in our user persona.
Make it stand out.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
